Three checks that save you a rewire.
01 / SIZE
Size sets the load.
A cable's cross section, in mm², decides how much current it can carry safely. Too small and it runs hot. Tell us the load and the run length and we will size it for you.
02 / CONDUCTOR
Copper or aluminium.
Copper carries more current for its size and bends easily, so it is the standard for building wiring. Aluminium is lighter and costs less per metre, so it suits large mains and overhead runs.
03 / PROTECTION
Armour where it is buried.
Steel armoured cable with XLPE insulation stands up to burial, site traffic and heat. Use it for supply runs between buildings, to generators and to external boards.
GENUINE OR FAKE
Buy fake, buy wahala.
Counterfeit cable looks the same on the shelf. Inside, it is often undersized, copper coated aluminium or thinly insulated, and it shows up later as heat, tripping and fire risk. Check every coil for these:
- 01Brand, size and voltage printed along the sheath, not only on the label.
- 02Bright, solid copper all the way through when you cut a strand.
